Emily Jane White is a twenty-something vocalist from the San Francisco Bay Area. “Time On Your Side” is from her album Dark Undercoat and it’s finger-picking folk tune underscored by White’s husky, slightly lonely vocals. It has the vibe of that “weird America” sound that many of us love here at iTunes but she trades in arcane mythical references for more concrete, lyrical poetry about life and loves.
Lyrics to “Time On Your Side” by Emily Jane White
He drives a truck
and he makes time on the side
the water splashes from his flaps for miles
and 3am on the I5 in the dark
as he moves away
Hey hey
Not much to do
when you’ve got time on your side
you sit and think
about your wasted life
i try to move
change things through and through
Why does your face grow so gone my dear
Why did your hurt grow so gone this year
Why does your face grow so gone my dear
Why did your hurt grow so gone … this year
oh and so gone
and so long this year
She’s a dancer
and when she dances she is free
and free in the moment
and clouds rise in the east
to Frank Sinatra which your parents put on repeat
on repeat

I really don’t like “folk” music, but I absolutely love this song. I can’t find the lyrics though, does anyone have them? maybe? Anyway, it is a great song!

Why did your hair grow so long this year

Why did your hair grow so long … this year

and so long this year”
